The recent crisis in Ukraine has had a ripple effect on European-Russian economic and political relations. At the heart of the crisis is energy, specifically natural gas and oil. The conflict is shaped not only by physical conditions such as pipelines and Europe's need to import supplies, but also by historical and cultural factors. This talk covers the geopolitics of European–Russian trade and co-operative relations in energy, tracing historical roots to the present.
