Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020  is the EU’s new framework programme for funding research and innovation (2014-2020; approx. €80 billion of funding available ). The programme is organised in seven programme sections each with various focus areas.  Please see the summary document below for more information and a digest of some of the current calls relevant to energy-related research area.

There is expected to be an updated version of the 2014/15 Energy Challenge Work Programme published in the summer, containing several minor amendments. UKRO understands that these include: the deadline for topics EE 2 and EE 18 postponed until May 2015, a joint topic on partnering with Brazil (LCE 13) may be suspended due to funding issues on the Brazilian side, and a Smart Cities prize topic (SCC 5) will be removed with the budget likely to be allocated to the LCE 9 topic on Large-Scale Energy Storage.


Information meeting
On 13 March 2014, Renata Schaeffer, the European Policy Manger in the Research Office provided an overview of European funding opportunities within Horizon 2020(including new funding strands) to Energy@Cambridge focusing on key changes to the EC’s funding framework programme.
