With carbon emissions still on the rise and the goal of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5oC become more improbable; rapid development and deployment of greenhouse gas mitigation techniques are paramount. Traditional CO2 capture, i.e. amine scrubbing, require thermal energy to release CO2, limiting widespread use. An alternative approach is to use electrical energy to perform the capture-release cycle. This has the potential to achieve a more efficient capture process without the need for harsh conditions. In this talk I will give an overview on how electrical energy can be implemented to capture CO2, areas of research my group is interested in and how this field will grow in the future.
