Please join us for an informative online webinar on energy materials on the 12th of June 2024 with Alex Forse and Christoph Schran.

Dr Alex Forse, Assistant Prof at Yousef Hamid Department of Chemistry University of Cambridge, will speak on 'Improving Rapid Energy Storage in Supercapacitors'.

"Supercapacitors are high power energy storage devices that are being used in electric vehicles and for balancing intermittent renewable energy production. In this talk I will present our findings that increased disorder in the carbon electrodes can more than double the amount of energy that supercapacitors can store. I will discuss challenges for understanding and exploiting disorder for improved rapid energy storage."

Dr Christoph Schran, Assistant Professor in Computational Atomic-Scale Materials Science at Department of Physics, University of Cambridge will speak on 'Understanding complex aqueous systems with machine learning'.

"Understanding complex materials, especially those involving solid–liquid interfaces — such as water on surfaces or under confinement — is crucial for advancing technology and scientific knowledge. In this talk, I will provide an overview on how machine learning techniques can be applied to represented the interactions of such systems in order to push forward the time and length scales of atomistic simulations. Afterwards, I will present how these techniques enable insight into condensed phase phenomena and how this can relate to energy materials."
