Carbon capture and utilization (CCU) can decarbonize fossil fuel-based industry. However, CCU needs to be powered by energy sources, the generation of which can cause extra greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The question falls on whether the overall GHG emissions can be reduced or not. CCU may contain various process options for either capture or utilization techniques, thus leading to a large (multi-process) system. This talk will show how machine-learning-based digitalization can accelerate the evaluation and optimization of such a large system. A more detailed information can be referred to the attachment. I will try my best to make the presentations friendly to fresh graduates.

Zhimian Hao recently started a postdoc position in biomass utilization at University of Cambridge. His research interests fall on process and energy systems engineering, CCUS, digitalization based on machine learning and optimization tools. Discussions on these topics and collaborations are welcome.
