Dr Simon Bennett - Global energy systems in times of transition and disruption
Dr Diana Khripko - How to address future uncertainties in municipal energy transition
Global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions have almost achieved the pre-pandemic peak level in 2021. In the past decade, decarbonisation of energy systems has become a focal point of national Net Zero policies as well as of municipal strategies and local initiatives. The transition to renewable and low-carbon energy sources is a major challenge that leads to significant changes in all areas of the energy value chain, from energy system design to demand side.
However, the energy transition is not a process decided just once. It is constantly exposed to new risks and uncertainties that must be considered and assessed at all governance levels.
