University of Cambridge Decarbonisation Network, Light Harvesting Special Interest Group (BE SIG):

Please join us on Wednesday 3 February (1–2pm, Zoom) for our next LH SIG panel discussion: Solar-powered Biology and the Production of Sustainable Chemicals

Abstract: Panellists will discuss the role physics and chemistry have in the production of biofuels and how synergies between these areas can emerge (i) to address basic science questions and (ii) to support the energy transition. They will explore the interface of photovoltaics, chemical catalysis and biotechnology to identify strengths and weaknesses of combined biohybrid technologies. Together with academic experts in each area, insights will be gained from industry and government stakeholders to provide realistic future scenarios.

Panel:

  • Professor Erwin Reisner (Chair), Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge
  • Dr Jenny Zhang, Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge
  • Dr Akshay Rao, Department of Physics, University of Cambridge
  • Dr Carina Faber, European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)
  • Dr Nir Yaacobi-Gross, Principal Scientist, Cambridge Display Technology Limited
