ABSTRACT: Opportunities of functional oxides for applications in electronics are huge. However, oxides in electronics are quite scarce. The challenges stem from both intrinsic and extrinsic materials problems. Also, current thin film deposition routes cannot always deliver the performance of bulk materials. This talk looks at some of the reasons for the aforementioned challenges, and shows different ways, drawing upon a range of disciplines, to overcome them. Examples will be given showing how to achieve translation of this interdisciplinary basic science to application.
Special Careers Session with Prof. Judith Driscoll! - 3:15 pm Pfizer Lecture Theatre
Judith Driscoll is Professor of Materials Science in Cambridge and Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Materials, founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, APL Materials, from the American Institute of Physics, and Fellow of several prestigious research institutions and societies. She runs a highly collaborative research group, and co-leads a highly successful 'Femincam' meeting that aims to celebrate emerging women in science and leaders in electronic materials.
In this discussion, Judith will share perspectives and insights from her career journey so far, and will engage in an open Q&A session hosted by Dr Alice Merryweather. The session is aimed at STEM early careers researchers from all backgrounds.
