Speaker: Eric Chan, Automated Vehicles, Ricardo

Many organisations are developing self-driving vehicles, and some are predicting that they will be on our roads in just a few years. How soon will we be travelling in partially or fully automated vehicles? What types of vehicles will they be? What is involved in engineering such vehicles, and how is it different to how normal vehicles are developed today?

This talk will look at the probable trends in this area and examine some of the challenges of developing and deploying these connected & automated vehicles, covering a range of technical, regulatory and societal issues.

Eric Chan is the Technical Expert for connected and automated vehicles at Ricardo. He has been active in automated transport systems for the passenger car, robotaxi, heavy truck and rail markets for almost 10 years, including projects on car and truck platooning, electronic-horizon systems, and fully automated urban robotaxis.
