Abstract: Brazil has recently introduced a national emissions trading system (ETS), targeting activities and facilities whose greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions exceed a defined threshold. The compliance market has similarities with the European Union cap-and-trade system but covers emissions from a wide range of sectors. This presentation will delve into the key design features of the system and examine how it is expected to interoperate with the voluntary carbon market. Lastly, it will address the major challenges associated with implementing the compliance carbon market in Brazil and strengthening the role played by the voluntary market.

The goal of this conference is to bring together researchers working on the theme of Molecules for Net Zero and Materials for Net Zero to join forces in developing solutions to the challenges of Net Zero. Some topics related to both the themes are described below:

1. Green Synthesis/Catalysis involving small molecules or materials/polymers especially from bio-derived feedstock or CO2
2. Development of molecules/materials or related concepts for applications in energy storage (e.g. battery, and hydrogen storage)
3. New approaches/concepts of circular economy and waste recycling (e.g. CO2 capture and chemical recycling of plastic waste)

The conference will involve 7 plenary lectures, and 18 session plenary lectures on both the themes. Additionally, there will be 36 oral presentations and poster/flash presentations to be selected from the submitted abstracts.

The mission of the New Energy Summer Summit is to increase the capacity of early-stage energy and climate researchers to accelerate transitions to equitable and sustainable energy systems and a healthy climate via interdisciplinary scholarship and collaboration. Each year, the Summit convenes an increasingly global cohort of scholars from a wide range of disciplines in an intimate setting for structured and unstructured creative exchange and peer-to-peer networking. This year’s agenda includes expanded opportunities to enhance critical skills for multi/interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarship such as communication, and proposal and publication workshopping, as well as ample time to connect with senior faculty and practitioners for career advising, mentorship, and networking. Attendees join an expanding “New Energy Network” of Summit alumni for continued exchange of ideas and opportunities.

The Armourers and Brasiers' Cambridge Forum is hosted annually by the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy in Cambridge with the aim of raising the profile of materials science in the UK academic and industrial communities, while being international in scope. The Forum attracts high-level involvement from industry, research councils and other influential bodies. It incorporates the Kelly Lecture inaugurated in 1999.
