With the ever increasing challenges of combating climate change, security of supply and affordability, nuclear generation continues to have an important role in the global energy mix. This is very much the case in the UK where 3 developers are pushing forward with their plans for new nuclear build which combined could achieve around 16 GWe of low carbon generation. One of those projects is being taken forward by Horizon Nuclear Power who will deploy the ABWR (Advanced Boiling Water Reactor) which is one of three reactor technologies that form GE Hitachi’s reactor portfolio. GE Hitachi has been designing and building nuclear power plants globally for well over 60 years and this presentation will draw upon that experience to outline some of the key steps involved in bringing a new nuclear programme into reality.

This talk is part of the Engineering Department Nuclear Energy Seminars series.
