The issue of energy security has become increasingly prominent, with the transition to a low carbon economy, the wide-ranging effects of conflicts in oil-exporting nations and the impact of the US shale gas revolution. However, it is still a contested idea and the responses formulated to energy security challenges within Government can differ widely.

This event, jointly hosted by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and UKERC will bring together energy experts from the defence and security and academic communities, to discuss what energy security means.

The event will be chaired by Joan MacNaughton CB of the UKERC Advisory Board and confirmed panellists so far include Professor Michael Bradshaw, UKERC Researcher & Professor of Global Energy, Warwick Business School and Dr John McElroy, UKERC Advisory Board & Director of Policy & Public Affairs, RWE npower, with representatives from NATO and the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change to be confirmed.

Panellists will give short presentations before the floor is opened up to questions and discussion points.
