- How do they think of academia?
- What do they look for?
- How do they choose whom to work with?
- How do they choose what topics and projects to work on?
- What drives their attitude to IP and publishing?
- Why do they behave so strangely (for example, endless delays and then they want the answer immediately)?
- Why do they sometimes seem to drift off-topic and ask about unrelated things?
In this panel session three people with an industrial perspective on research will discuss the questions above – and respond to questions posed by the audience:
Anna-Marie Greenaway, VP Science and Technology, BP-Cambridge, is BP’s senior representative at the University of Cambridge and leads the strategy for the joint strategic relationship encompassing research to support BP’s global operations, recruitment, executive education and international research partnerships
Chris Rider, Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Large-Area Electronics, and director of Imbrys Limited, a microfluidics start-up. Previously he was with Kodak European Research, Cambridge.
Charles Boulton, R&D Director, ComAp a.s. and consultant in R&D / technology strategy and management for clients including ABB , Coors, O2, Philips, Rolls Royce and the UKAEA .
So come along with questions and views, to better understand how academic research fits into the jigsaw of options open to industrial companies.
Lunch will be served from 12:00 and formal proceedings will start 12:30, finishing at 13:30 with networking and questions until 14:00
