The lecture will give an introduction to JCESR's vision, mission and legacies and be followed by an overview of progress and outlook toward achieving JCESR goals in the fundamental science of storage, research prototypes for next generation batteries and a new paradigm for battery R&D.

Professor Crabtree has won numerous awards for his research, including the Kammerlingh nnes Prize for his work on vortices in high temperature superconductors. This prestigious prize is awarded once every three years; Dr Crabtree is its second recipient. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
