Speaker: Professor Ian Chapman, CEO of the UK Atomic Energy Authority

Professor Chapman will discuss the UK Fusion Programme, present an integrated design for a nuclear fusion power plant and the challenges that remain in order to realise nuclear fusion as a source of sustainable energy, as well as future opportunities in the field. Professor Chapman’s primary research interests lie in understanding and controlling macroscopic instabilities in fusion plasmas, with a view to developing techniques for plasma control. We look forward to hearing his perspectives on nuclear fusion power and its potential for the future.

About the speaker: Professor Ian Chapman is a Fellow of the Insitute of Physics and CEO of the UK Atomic Energy Authority. His research spans experiments on a number of fusion devices worldwide as well as developing leading numerical modelling tools. He has over 110 publications, and his research has been recognised with a number of international awards.
