Speaker: Professor Rachel McKendry, UCL and the London Centre for Nanotechnology

Professor McKendry will address the challenges for women in science. She will also talk about her research, which lies at the cutting edge of nanotechnology, telecommunication, big data and infectious diseases.
Rachel is Professor of Biomedical Nanotechnology at UCL with a joint position at the London Centre for Nanotechnology and Division of Medicine. She is Director of i-Sense, a national £11M EPSRC Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in Early Warning Sensing Systems for Infectious Diseases as well as Director of Biomedicine and Life Sciences at the London Centre for Nanotechnology.
In 2014 Rachel won the Royal Society Rosalind Franklin Award and Lecture for her scientific achievements, her suitability as a role model and for her exciting proposal to launch a national competition to create mobile phone apps to inspire women to become leaders in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM).
