This session by the Government Office for Science will explore how they achieve their mission and support academic policy-engagement.

Curious about what the role of the Government Office for Science (GO-Science) is and how we work?

GO-Science’s mission is to put excellent science advice at the heart of decision making. Our speakers will discuss how GO-Science does this, including by

  • Producing science advice directly for the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
  • Creating science advice mechanisms that are efficient, effective, speak truth to power and are embedded irreversibly in government systems.
  • Supporting departments science systems and capabilities – such as through our network of Chief Scientific Advisers, led by the GCSA, and by building the science and engineering profession across government.

The session will also highlight the many ways academics can get involved in the work of GO-Science and across government to bring excellent advice into decision making.

Speakers:

Cathy Alexander, Deputy Director for Science Capability, GO-Science

Carrie Heitmeyer, Head of Social Sciences, GO-Science
