On the 23rd May Cambridge Nuclear Energy Centre and Energy@Cambridge hosted 27 senior executives from China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) who are involved with the development of new build projects at Hinkley Point, Bradwell and Sizewell.

The seminar kicked-off with a history of the Nuclear Industry in the UK from Simon Taylor (JBS) author of The Fall and Rise of Nuclear Power in Britain and Dr Shu Guogang (leader of the CGNPC delegation) was presented with a copy of Simon's book.

The programme continued with presentations on UK energy policy and electricity trading and pricing from Kong Chyong (JBS) and recent changes in regulation and innovation to facilitate new nuclear build in the UK by Tony Roulstone (CUED).

After Lunch, Geoff Parks (CUED) gave an exposition of future nuclear energy systems being developed in Cambridge and Ian Farnan (Earth Sciences) described new nuclear materials research at Cambridge within National and European programmes.

The meeting concluded with a wide-ranging discussion that identified common interests covering nuclear and energy in general, including novel materials; modular production of reactors; reactor core optimisation; energy policy and electricity trading & pricing.
